Confidentiality
Counselling is confidential but there are exceptions to this, such as if I thought that you were at serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there was a legal requirement such as reporting terrorism. Also, all counsellors are required to have counselling supervision but the same rules of confidentiality apply.
Privacy
I will keep brief notes of our sessions but these are anonymised and kept in a locked cupboard. They will be destroyed after seven years. I will also keep your contact details and those of someone to contact in an emergency. These will be stored separately from any counselling notes in order to maintain your anonymity. Your rights under Data Protection Law mean that in certain circumstances you could access a copy and explanation of your personal data to request correction or erasure,.
